7 July 2025 | The European Union and Jordan have formalized their renewed collaboration in Mediterranean research and innovation through the signing of the updated PRIMA Agreement (Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area).
The ceremony took place in Brussels, with the agreement signed by Marc Lemaitre, Director-General for Research and Innovation representing the EU, and Professor Mashhoor Al Refai, Secretary General of the Higher Council for Science and Technology, representing Jordan.
Jordan’s participation includes a financial commitment of 4.5 million euros for the 2025-2027 period, ensuring continued access to PRIMA funding opportunities and strengthening ties with broader EU research initiatives.
European Commissioner for Startups, Research and Innovation, Ekaterina Zaharieva, emphasized the significance of the partnership during uncertain global times, describing it as an investment in “shared ambition, regional stability, and a future shaped by cooperation and innovation.”
The agreement also recognizes Jordan’s leadership role in regional science diplomacy, particularly through its co-chairmanship with the EU of the Union for the Mediterranean’s Research and Innovation Platform.
