The FUTURE4PRIMA project, funded by the European Union under Horizon Europe, and led by PRIMA, has reached a key milestone: it is launching an online public consultation to co-design PRIMA 2, the renewed Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area.
After two years of collaborative work with 23 partners from 16 countries, FUTURE4PRIMA has outlined the initial orientations for what could become PRIMA’s next phase beyond 2027. Now, the process enters its most important stage — listening to the Mediterranean community.
Since its creation in 2018, PRIMA has mobilised nearly €600 million, supported more than 260 cross-border projects, and engaged thousands of researchers, farmers, SMEs, and civil society actors. With over 170 exploitable results and 127 demonstration sites, PRIMA has become a unique platform for scientific cooperation and dialogue across the Mediterranean.
Why your voice matters
The Mediterranean is facing mounting pressures — from climate change and water scarcity to soil degradation, biodiversity loss, and social inequalities. Many innovative solutions already exist but often remain at pilot stage, struggling to scale up or replicate across borders.
PRIMA 2 aims to change this: to make sure proven innovations are adopted, replicated, and sustained, while fostering stronger cooperation and inclusiveness throughout the region.
The consultation invites stakeholders to reflect on key questions such as:
- How urgent is action on water, energy, food, soil, and ecosystems in your region?
- What prevents innovation from scaling across Mediterranean countries?
- Which stakeholder groups should have the strongest voice in PRIMA 2?
- How can we ensure solutions go beyond pilots and last?
- What indicators best capture real progress and impact?

What’s next
The consultation results will directly inform the Joint Programme proposal for PRIMA 2, ahead of decisions on the future of the partnership under the next EU Framework Programme (FP10, 2028–2034).
With your input, PRIMA 2 can turn research into resilience — and help deliver lasting, shared solutions for the Mediterranean.
